JMO: Jon Stewart Is Leaving The Daily Show And We Should All Be Sad About It.

Where were you when you found out Jon Stewart was leaving The Daily Show?

I was and still am in Florida. I'm in shock and I'm super-bummed about it. I found out when I was on Gawker.com. I tend to go on their site more when I feel like I've binged on way too much entertainment news and I need a palette cleanser. Then, as I read articles about topics that run a little deeper than who A is, I'm reminded of how much I love that site.

Anyway, they broke the news to me (click here for the article).

I'm bummed. Are you guys bummed? Do you watch The Daily Show? You should. It's good.

I'm not going to front, I never watched the Daily Show regularly once I stopped paying for cable. Still, I'm still really sad to see Jon Stewart go. In a world where people are quick to accept what is reported as fact, Stewart always had a way of making his viewers look at things from a different perspective. He not only encouraged it, he expected it. I feel like as a talk-show host, he held his viewers to a certain standard and expected them to, at the very least, think.

So we should all be sad that he's leaving in my opinion.

The privilege has been ours, Mr. Jon Stewart.

Idols

I read an awesome and way too short Lainey interview (click here) a while back and in it, she answered Madonna when asked who her idol was growing up.

That got me to thinking: who was my idol when I was a kid/pre-teen?

I couldn't think of anyone, guys.

Ask me who my crush was back then and Leonardo DiCaprio comes to mind immediately (preferably as Romeo but I was an equal opportunity Leophile).

Back then I never really had posters up in my room or obsessed over getting my hair to look exactly like a certain star's or anything like that. I blame this on the absence of cable television in our house.

I also think I was much more interested in characters than the people playing them when I was a child.

For example, if I was asked which fictional heroines I looked up to when I was younger I could immediately tell you: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Hands down. No competition. At all.

Ask me what I thought of Sarah Michelle Gellar and I wouldn't have much to say on that front because I just didn't care.

Am I alone in this? Who did you guys look up to growing up?

I sometimes wonder how social media is going to affect kids and the idol culture. I think our society's fascination with celebrity has heightened to the point where people are more interested in Nina Dobrev than they are in Elena Gilbert.

Speaking of idols, Lainey aka "my everything", posted a birthday shout-out after I wrote her an email like the giant fan-girl I am.

I guess we never grow out of it, huh?

I requested pics of some of my favorite pop culture heroines and she obliged. She also wrote some really nice things that made my day. Check it out here.

Dating In Your Twenties; A Decade Of Figuring It Out.

"Girls" is that show that had all that buzz around it. The show on HBO about single ladies living in New York. The show people were comparing to "Sex and the City" which I think is unfair.  It's a show written by Lena Dunham, a woman in her twenties,  about women in their twenties. Big difference.

I'll have to check it out before making any comments (I've read the complaints about the lack of diversity)  but thinking about the premise of the show had me thinking about me and my friends, most of us single, in our twenties, living all over the place.

A while back, my sister Yemi and one of our mutual besties Viviam were having a bit of a tiff. It was more of a misunderstanding; Yemi thought Viv was becoming a bit boy crazy and Viv thought Yemi was being insensitive.

I was called by each of them, listened as both ladies made valid points.

Yes, as her friend, my sister should be more supportive. But as Yemi pointed out she "couldn't relate to all the boy drama". And that was the problem.

See, Yemi has not had the always amazing, confidence boosting pleasure of dating in her twenties. She met her fiance when she was 20. There's a whole world out there that she will never experience.

So to her, Viv and I (because I too have called her with the drama) were a little pathetic. She would NEVER say it but I know my sister. She's that girl. The girl who was incredibly blessed with a great guy and a healthy relationship early in life and is looking down at the rest of us with non-malicious pity.

But that's okay with me. I didn't do much of anything as a teenager so I'm due for a few f*ck ups.  I'm also a writer who thrives on experiences and dating in your twenties is definitely an experience.

When you're a teen, there's often an awkwardness, an uncertainty about everything. So when you date mistakes, it's unfortunate but can at least be chalked up to a learning experience. When you're in your twenties, you may not be the wisest of the bunch but you should know better. Which makes the mistakes so much more embarrassing. The knowing that something is wrong/bad for you and going ahead and doing it any way, fully aware of your actions, unable to hide behind naivete.

There's also the pressure; both Viv and I are constantly being asked why we haven't found a proper boyfriend to seriously date and ultimately marry. Is this a cultural thing (Viv's Peruvian-American, I'm Nigerian-American)?  Because gone are the days of just dating for the hell of it. Each guy we date is potentially our husbands to our families and we're both only 26.

Also there's the ick factor. Looking back at the mistakes of my teens, I can laugh it off like "I can't believe I spent so much time on that loser" . But the mistakes of my twenties make me cringe. Viv and I spent a good two hours comparing notes on the symptoms we experience when even thinking of some of our mistakes: slight nausea, shudders and a mixture of shame, mortification and disgust. A wave of "I can't believe I let him touch me" grossed-outness washes over us at the mere thought of certain mistakes. Then the question of why. Why oh why oh why?

I guess it's because dating in your twenties is all about figuring it out. We know what's wrong and what's right but we have to be sure it's wrong or right for us so we go ahead and test the waters. It's about growing up, getting over the uncertainty of our teens, learning not to apologize for figuring out what we want.

It's mostly bullshit but so is everything else in life.

Did Brooke Jasmyn and Christian Fields Break Up?

Picture: Necolebitchie.com

I watched Harlem Heights, I loved Harlem Heights, I was annoyed/baffled when BET dropped Harlem Heights after one season.

What did I love about the show? Well, I loved watching a show about young black twenty somethings trying to make it in New York. It was nice to watch a show that didn't embarrass me as a black woman. I personally LOVED Brooke Crittendon (now Brooke Jasmyn). I loved her hair, her work hard, play hard attitude, the glamorous famous ex mystique. Love love love.  And her and Christian Grant-Fields getting together and then getting married? Squeal!!!!

So I need to know: are Brooke and Chris no more? Nothing on Google pops up that confirms this but I follow Brooke  on Twitter (it's not stalking if you admit it) and the tweets are leading me to believe all is not well.

Some tweets that worry me (sorry for the ghetto copy and paste job. I'm writing on my blackberry from a hospital):

William Levy Gets Around

Though I'm in a different country, I'm discovering William Levy around the same time as a lot of non-spanish speaking Americans in the United States. They can thank Dancing with The Stars for the discovery but I have to thank Galaxy TV and their telenovela habit. Right now I'm watching Levy's hot ass in two of them; Triunfo Del Amor and Sortilegio.

Oh my god, he's so pretty. Too pretty. Probably a douche. But...I just want to touch his face.

And I want him to carry me like I weigh nothing because he looks like he can.

Hot.

What does he sound like on Dancing with the Stars? I'll die if he sounds like David Beckham.

As far as his acting goes, I can't really comment. Both shows are dubbed over in English and that takes away so much. Not to mention the fact that soap operas are, well, soap operas. But from what I can tell, he's not bad at all.

I'm curious to see what Dancing does for Levy's career. Obviously actors don't need Hollywood's stamp of approval to justify their work but that's obviously what the Cuban actor wants. With the appearance in J.Lo's music video, the Dancing gig and the People cover, Levy is trying to transition. Will he succeed?

I have no idea but I think it's amazing that because of his presence on Nigerian television, people here are more likely to lose their shit over seeing him than they are over Jon Hamm.

To Read Or Not To Read: Recaps

I’m still undecided about reading recaps of my shows while I’m away. I usually don’t since I hate spoilers and would rather just wait till I can watch my shows. This means when I’m in Nigeria, I avoid Gawker, Entertainment Weekly and Duana’s posts on Laineygossip.com like they’re men with Herpes. But six months is an awfully long time not knowing.

Do We Want Izzie Back At Seattle Grace?

Katherine Heigl would love to return to “Grey’s Anatomy”.  But do we want her back?

Yes. No. Maybe.

God, I love Izzie and would love to see her back on Grey’s because I miss her on Grey’s. I really, really do. My heart broke when she left (click here). But the lady who plays her is so annoying. Tell me what to feel guys.

While she's probably banking, Heigl's career has been sucking lately from a creative standpoint. She's been in one shitty film after the next. And I don't get it.

She is a great actress; why is she agreeing to star in these atrocious films? Why is she such a smug bitch in interviews? Why is she making it so hard to root for her?

Damn.

When in Rome...

Re-runs of this? FML.
When you’re living in a different country, it’s important to be able to adapt and embrace your new environment.  When in Rome, don’t be the douchey American who brings his own utensils to a restaurant.

But when it comes to television, I just can’t. Because I’ve tried watching Nigerian television shows and I’m rolling my eyes so much, I look like I’m having a seizure.

The truth is, a lot of the shows here suffer from repetitive storylines, bad acting and even worse editing. I can deal with one of these issues but not three at the same time.

So I’m incredibly thankful for cable. It’s a luxury that I couldn’t afford on my own in the states but my parents are smart people; they bribed me into staying longer with the promise of cable television and all the cherimoya I can eat.

We have DSTV’s Family package so I don’t get MNet, which sucks (that channel shows “Glee”, “Grey’s Anatomy” and other shows I actually watch). But since we rarely have light during the day anyway, it’s not that big a deal.

What we do get is the Universal Channel, home of “Two and a Half Men”, “CSI” and every other crime/ law/ police drama that’s ever been on TV as well as B movies Lifetime wouldn’t air. On the bright side, “House” airs on Tuesdays at 8:50 pm. I’m down.

MNet Series Africa airs “The Bachelor”. Yesssssss! It’s two seasons behind but I may watch it anyway. Season 1 of “Parenthood” comes on at 8 on Sundays. “The 9 lives of Chloe King” and “Hellcats” air on Mondays. I tried watching Chloe King on Netflix one day. It was unusually bad. “Being Human” comes on after that though and I’ve wanted to watch it. Has anyone seen that show?

SCORE! “The Office” comes on right after “Friends With Benefits” (another show I wanted to check out) on Tuesdays.

“Switched at Birth” comes on Thursdays and “Person of Interest” on Fridays.

Do you think less of me since I'm putting together a schedule?

Happy New Year!

Greetings from Nigeria readers! I’m starting 2012 in a different country and have spent the last week eating, catching up with family and doing all the things I usually do when I’m on vacation. But this trip home is a little different from others as I mentioned (click here) because I’m not visiting for a few days; I’m going to be here for a few months. Since I don’t want to be a lazy fuck who sits on my ass all day and gets fat, my vacation is over. I’m rested, my blackberry service is up and running and I’m ready to start some sort of a normal schedule.

So I told myself I wasn’t going to do this because my time could be put to better use but I’ve spent the last four hours trying to stream an episode of “The Vampire Diaries” on my laptop.

Pathetic.

January is kind of a big deal for the TV addict. Last week shows started airing new episodes and I’m missing everything! I’m missing mid-season premieres and series premieres. I’m missing Twitter convos and EW.com and Gawker.com recaps because I REFUSE to go on any sites that may have spoilers. I’m missing phone conversations about “Revenge” with Johanna and texts to Viv about every ridiculous reality television show airing because she gets as much pleasure from seeing people act stupid as I do. Don’t get me started on missing “The Bachelor”. I know it’s shit but it’s shit I enjoy and my Monday nights feel so empty without it.

So I’m up trying to stream an episode of TVD just so I know I can.

I know people live without American television all over the world and they are happy human-beings but I can’t help but feel incomplete now.

I know. Pathetic.

How has 2012 been for you so far?

Geek Warning: This Is A Battlestar Galactica Post.

Look what I saw today on Facebook!

Aww, I miss BSG.

Sigh...

I'm rewatching the series again with my sister this time.

Of course she loves it.

During my EW interview, one of the editors asked me if I watched Caprica. I didn't. Should I? I just couldn't get it up for Caprica when it first premiered but maybe I'll try again.

Super Excited!

Randy: There are certain RULES that one must abide by in order to successfully survive a horror movie. For instance, number one: you can never have sex.
[
crowd boos]
Randy: BIG NO NO! BIG NO NO! Sex equals death, okay? Number two: you can never drink or do drugs.
[
crowd cheers and raises their bottles]
Randy: The sin factor! It's a sin. It's an extension of number one. And number three: never, ever, ever under any circumstances say, "I'll be right back." Because you won't be back.
Stu: I'm gettin' another beer, you want one?
Randy: Yeah, sure.
Stu: I'll be right back.
[
crowd cheers]
Randy: See, you push the laws and you end up dead. Okay, I'll see you in the kitchen with a knife.

Yo yo yo! Yo...

Happy Halloween! I hope everyone dressed up over the weekend and had a great time. If you live in the Northeast area, chances are you didn't. I worked so even if the weather wasn't ridiculous, there would be no Halloween fun for me (The Children's Place: slowly killing my spirits since October 2011).

But despite the fact that I'm 25, working in retail and having to live through Snowtober, I'm in a fantastic mood! For one, November is a new month and a new month means a new beginning and I'm determined to get my fat ass moving and try that whole exercising thing again. If at first you don't succeed, right?

Two, this morning I entertained myself reading #ThingsLongerThanKimsMarriage tweets. Freaking hilarious. Laughter releases endorphins so you know, I'm doing my body good. In all seriousness though, breaking up sucks and it can't be easy doing it publicly so good luck to her.

Last but not least, I am beyond excited because I have an interview with Entertainment Weekly tomorrow! I haven't been this excited about an interview in a very long time people. Working at EW wold be a dream come true because I am seriously on their site every day.

I go hard for EW people. EW is the Bieber to my tween. It's that serious.

I first discovered EW.com years ago when I was trying to get some info on the next season of my favorite show EVER Battlestar Galactica (RIP BSG). These days, I'm on it for everything from Hunger Games info to recaps (you guys know how I feel about all things Bachelor related but it's so much better with Kristen Baldwin's hilarious commentary thrown into the mix).

So I'm in a great mood. I'm gonna skip Terra Nova tonight and watch Scream in honor of today. I caught some of it a couple of nights ago and was reminded of how Matthew Lillard used to be my everything.

What ever happened to him?

Kourtney Kardashian on One Life to Live.

Okay, I don't want my blog to look like YouTube's main page and I really need to get up, shower and head to work but I just saw a vid of Kourtney Kardashian on One Life to Live so of course I have to stop what I'm doing and comment.

Wanna check it out?

Here ya go.

That was pretty bad.

Somewhere in this world, there are people like me who like soap operas and it hurt them to watch that.

Let's stick to our lanes people: actors should act, singers should sing and celebutantes should do what they do.

With that said, She looked adorable.

I Miss TV.

I'm not ashamed to call myself a TV junkie. I love TV. I have a very loving relationship with TV. And I need to get a fix regularly or things get ugly. UGLY.

So when I told my roommate I was going to be out of the country for three weeks, she laughed and laughed. I wasn't offended. I wanted to laugh too. And cry. After all, I'm missing the last three episodes of "The Bachelor" and I'm missing "Glee".

It's been really really hard.

To make matters worse, I haven't had access to the internet for a week so I'm totally out of the loop!

WhatamIgonnado? If I move here, this is going to be a huge problem for me. Laugh all you want but watching TV is my way of relaxing.

I love reading as much as the next bookworm but c'mon! Spend the day without electricity long enough for the novelty to wear off then judge me. When the lights come on, I want to be with my television!

My mission today was simple; find websites that air American shows and see if they work in Nigeria. This isn't just about me: every year, people who enjoy crappy television travel to countries that just don't air them. This is for them too!

  • NBC.com. Fox.com, CBS.com, ABC.com, CWTV.com: All of the websites said they needed me to download a newer version of Flash so I'll get back to you on this.
  • Hulu.com: Nope, "Sorry, currently our video library can only be streamed from within the United States" Daaaaaaaaaaaamn Youuuuuuuuuuuu!
  • Ch131.com: It's tricky. In the US, you can watch videos without downloading anything. It looks like people trying to access the newest episode of "Grey's Anatomy", will have to download the file. I'd do it but I'm getting the side eye from the guy who works here.
  • TVDuck.com: See Ch131.com explanation.
  • Youtube.com: If your fave show is often uploaded to the site in segments, you're in luck. It seems to work here : )
  • MTV.com: Videos on MTV.com don't work over here.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Wait, MTVBase, Africa's MTV listed "The Jersey Shore" as one of the shows they air but the episodes on their website are from the Miami episodes.

Can somebody confirm that MTVBase airs "The Jersey Shore"? Are the episodes from season 2? For the love of God, someone get back to me on this! And does anyone know where I can watch videos online?

"The Bachelor": Why I Watch Every Week.

Anyone who follows me on Twitter (right here if you're interested), knows I am a HUGE fan of the reality television show "The Bachelor". I watch it religiously (Monday nights at 8:00 PM Eastern time).

Anyway, my Bachelor obsession has resulted in some hilarious Monday nights for me. It's also led to a few people "unfollowing" me on Twitter.

Eh, I can't please everyone.

So what's the appeal? Why do I tune in every week to see grown women compete for a guy's affection? There are lots of reasons:

It's hilarious.

I'm sorry, I know this is evil and some may say it's my inner bitch coming out to play but I love reality television. Seeing a bunch of adults make asses of themselves is awesome. I thoroughly enjoy laughing at the stupidity of others. This is the draw of "The Bachelor", "The Jersey Shore", "The Real World" and many of the other shows I watch. Just ask Kristen Baldwin; she writes the best Bachelor related recaps EVER.

Twitter makes everything better.

Have you guys ever tweeted and watched your fave show simultaneously? Fun fun fun. Now I may be biased but in my opinion, some of the wittiest, most hilarious statements tweeted in 140 characters or less have come from Bachelor fans (shout out to some of my "Twitter friends": @iamSalt7, @Deedraesi, @Silprincess22, @mollyCLE, @keysygirl, @LoveMarci , @SoFlyLadyDi, @267rachael). And the drinking games these men and women have come up with gets my week started right. If you ever decide to join me, just know you have to take a shot every time someone on the show says "journey", "best date ever", "leap of faith", "I gave up so much to be here", "I've never felt this way before", "I didn't expect to fall this quickly", or anytime bachelor host Chris Harrison says "The most dramatic season ever!" in the previews.

The Bachelor is so popular on Twitter on Monday nights that people tune in just to see what everyone is tweeting about. If you decide to do the same, I highly recommend reading @Possessionista and @jenniferweiner's Bachelor tweets to fully submerse yourself in the experience. Hey, there's no half-assing this!

I'm an optimist at heart.
I enjoy a laugh at the expense of the Bachelor contestants and I enjoy doing that laughing along with everyone else watching on Twitter. But at the end of the day, I am rooting for these people. Despite the odds being against them (the cameras), some people actually find love on this show. It's fascinating to get a glimpse - albeit a small one - of that happening. These people may be a little crazy for being on reality TV but they're still real people. I want the bachelor or bachelorette to find love, I want Snooki to finally find her perfect guido-juicehead-monkey soul-mate and I want the seven strangers picked to live in a house to learn from each other and become life-long friends.

I may be a bitch but this bitch loves a happy ending.

NBC's UnderCovers Kinda Sucks

I take my television shows very seriously. So seriously, that I print a schedule out before the Fall premieres so I can remind myself when my fave shows are premiering and so I can decide which new shows I'm going to invest in.

This year, I added UnderCovers to my Wednesday lineup. The show is about a husband and wife (Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha - Raw). They used to be CIA agents and are reactivated after being retired for an ambiguous number of years. So we have an interesting story, gorgeous actors and J.J. Abrams as the creator. How can this show fail?

Well, I'll tell you.

Awful writing, overacting, unrealistic everything.

After the first episode, I was dissapointed but optimistic. This is J.J. Abrams. He's never done me wrong, never. After the third episode, I accepted the fact that Abrams had a flaw and UnderCovers was it. Still, I watch the show. Why? Because I still believe beyond all logic that it will find it's groove and get better. Or because I want to support a mainstream series with characters of color in the lead roles. It's not like that happens every day. But I don't know if I can watch it anymore. It sucks.

Richard Lawson, Gawker.com's hilarious writer, made a comment about the show I took very seriously "Abrams's oddly unwatchable spy show (I think it's the tone? Y'know, is it thriller? Comedy? It needs to be frothier or grittier, the in-between just isn't working)".

Yes, yes and yes. The show is like an awkward teenager who doesn't know whether to spend adolescence with a sense of humor or all angst-ridden. Are you a comedy or an action thriller? The characters either need to head over to Chuck or they need Sydney Bristow to slap the smiles off their faces. Being a government agent is serious stuff!

Luckily for the people depending on this show for a paycheck, four more scripts have been ordered.

So UnderCovers, make up your damn mind. Nobody wants to wait around while a show figures things out.

This Week in Frivolity...

  • Hospital chic? Designer Ben de Lisi has created hospital gowns in the UK that snap down the side. The gown is made from high-quality cotton and includes a pouch for a mobile phone and is accessorized with a snugly fleece blanket.
  • Do you ever wonder why guys cheat on their significant others with the fugliest women to ever walk the earth? No? Just me then… Anyway Jesse James’ho lost a modeling gig because of photographs showing her in Nazi regalia. Yes, he truly picked a winner. Anyway, she's whining because no one likes her. Now, not nearly as many people would know about McGee’s Nazi photo shoot or her White Power tattoos if she hadn’t made a quick buck at the expense of someone else. Now the cat’s out of the bag. Sucks to be you. Team Sandy.
  • Can we have a moment of silence in honor of MTV’s The Hills? Okay, moment’s starting… Moment’s over! After watching the fascinating girls shop, party, cry, vacay, swap bodily fluids with Brody and pretend to have jobs, the show’s sixth season will be the final one. I for one am crushed. The Hills is my favorite scripted series. What will I do? How will I live? Thank God for The City and Jersey Shore.
  • Fictional character Carrie Bradshaw is a fashion gangsta. (thanks to the very real Patricia Field) but some would say the woman has the sense of a brick when it comes to men. As a huge Aidfan (fan of Aidan) I’m ecstatic to report that GraziaDaily was right; John Corbett WILL be in the movie! The sequel comes to theatres May 27th. What do you think the storyline will be? I bet all of my lunch money that Big screws up. With a cocktail waitress by night, model/actress by day…
  • So Patti Stranger, best friend to gold diggers, is packing her bags. Why, you ask? Is she going to be the den mother on the Rock of Love Bus? Unfortunately, that kind of awesomeness hasn’t reached TV yet. No the woman behind The Millionaire Matchmaker brand is coming to NYC! She’s hired Vivienne Potestivo Entertainment to handle casting for the fourth season. An insider said a bunch of “society types, hedge-fund guys and club owners” have applied.
  • So a LOT of people are talking about Balmain. The house is selling a t-shirt. It’s ripped which is a big trend for spring. It’s cotton, which reminds me of that Zooey Deschanel commercial. It’s $1625. I don’t get it; does it come with free rent or something? My car isn’t worth that much. Would you buy it?
  • Ugh, it seems Jake Pavelka isn’t satisfied with occupying televisions with his cheesy lines and cheesier dance moves. The former bachelor on “The Bachelor” and the current “Dancing with the Stars” contestant has hired p.r. firm Rogers & Cowan to represent him. Because what Mr. Pavelka really wants to do is act. And anyone who watched him on “The Bachelorette” knows he can… just not well.
  • Wal-mart’s Op’s spring ad campaign is getting ready to launch and once again, it looks like an ad for a new CW show. They employed Young Hollywood’s prettiest stars including Gossip Girl’s Jessica Szohr, Glee’s Cory Monteith and Dianna Agron, 90210’s Trevor Donovan, Twilight’s Alex Meraz and singer Cassie. These kids aren’t exactly winning Oscars and Grammies but at least they look good.
  • How cute is Selena Gomez? The Disney sweetheart is jumping on the celebrity-I’m a designer except I’m really not-bandwagon with her Dream Out Loud collection for Kmart. The store, whose products are usually pimped by Jaclyn Smith, is finally jumping on the celebrity endorsed juniors department bandwagon. Cuz all the cool kids are doing it.
  • James Franco has done what Blair Waldorf couldn’t: he got into Yale. That’s right, the Milk actor has been accepted into the Ivy League school’s Ph.D. program. Franco has already received his MFA from Columbia and a degree in filmmaking from NYU. How many people can say they went to Yale and guest-starred on General Hospital?

JMO: ABC's Flash Forward

So I was watching FlashForward last night like I always do before Grey’s Anatomy. The plot is kind of unbelievable and the acting is sometimes terrible but John Cho, Michael Ealy and Joseph Fiennes kind of make up for it.

John Cho is perfection.

Anyway, in this episode, the Mosaic group went to Somalia to follow a lead on their case and a bunch of Somali rebel fighters shot up the place with no regard for human life. Then the head honcho – who repeatedly stated he was following God’s plan – was talked out of his killing spree by the American woman who tells him “you’re supposed to stop the war not start it” or some irritating comment like that and he does a 180 and starts helping out the group.

Because that’s realistic.

I could go on in greater detail but that really sums up what happened in the episode. Maybe I’m being sensitive but I am so tired of watching Africans portrayed negatively in the media. It’s getting old. Episodes like that are cliché and played out, not to mention irresponsible. They reinforce America’s ugly image of Africa and contribute to people’s unfair opinions of Africans.

It’s wrong.

I know Africa as a continent may not be progressing as quickly as everywhere else but not every country is run by killer hungry maniacs. It would be nice to see a positive story come out of the Hollywood machine at least once.

But who am I kidding?I don’t know if writers in Hollywood are capable of writing a story that isn’t formulaic and predictable.

Eating my Feelings

Some of you already know this but I’m currently master cleansing (I’ll explain why and everything else in tomorrow’s post, readers).

I didn’t feel the need to write on Days 1, 2 or 3 because I was feeling pretty good. Today, however, is a totally different story. I was craving food a bit yesterday but it wasn’t terrible.

Today is different. All I’m thinking about is food! But something happened today that makes me wonder why I'm craving food.

I received a text from my mom this morning saying my grandfather passed away. I’m upset but I’m not going to fake a relationship that I never had with the man. I, unfortunately, didn’t know my grandfather very well.

If I’m honest with myself, the tears and the loss I feel is because I will never get a chance to know the man who helped bring my favorite person into the world. That sucks and now I want food.

So I stayed home today just because I wasn’t up to going to work. I wanted to be able to talk to family and cry without having to run out of my cubicle at Internship # 4.

But staying home was a huge mistake. I was thinking I could clean my room or do some work but I couldn’t concentrate so I decided to forget about my life for a while and watch some soaps. The thing I forgot was how soap operas have commercials and an alarming amount of commercials are advertising some kind of food.

So now, I have Ferrero Rocher chocolates on my mind. Not to mention the fact that my dear neighbor Mr. B brought over a loaf of fresh baked bread that is currently taunting me from the freezer. And I have two chunks of pineapple left in my fridge from last week.

In short, I want fooooooooooood.

Sigh.

4 days almost down, 11 days to go (though I’m seriously considering stopping after Day 10).
